THE SCIENCE OF SUMMER SKIN
Understanding what your skin really needs when the temperature rises
When the sun comes out, our skin steps into a completely different world. Heat, humidity, UV rays, saltwater, and sweat all change the way your skin behaves, which is why your winter routine doesn’t always work in summer. Here’s what’s really happening beneath the surface, and how to keep your glow balanced, protected, and radiant all season long.
Heat = More Oil (and More Dehydration)
Warm weather increases sebum (oil) production, meaning your skin might look glowy but actually be dehydrated underneath. Think of it like sweating: your body loses water, and your skin barrier can struggle to keep up.
Your fix: Lighter, water-based formulas like WITH MILK or DAY HYDRATE help replenish moisture without clogging pores. Pair with your SPF to lock in hydration and keep your barrier strong.
UV Rays = Accelerated Ageing
Sunlight is the biggest cause of premature ageing, it breaks down collagen, triggers pigmentation, and creates free radicals that damage skin cells. Even short bursts of unprotected exposure add up over time.
Your fix: Daily SPF, always. Layer it after your moisturiser, before makeup, and reapply every two hours when outdoors. It’s the single most powerful anti-ageing step you can take.
Humidity = Barrier Stress
In high humidity, your skin can feel sticky or congested. Sweat mixes with sunscreen and makeup, blocking pores and leading to breakouts.
Your fix: Keep your skin clean with a gentle cleanser like CUPPA-T and exfoliate 1–2 times a week with our MONRING COFFEE Scrub to prevent buildup. Follow with DAY DRIN-C and DAY HYDRATE to nourish without heaviness.
Salt & Chlorine = Stripped Skin
Beach days and pool dips can leave your skin dry, itchy, and tight, both salt and chlorine pull natural oils out of the skin.
Your fix: After swimming, rinse immediately and apply AFTER Body Oil or ALWAYS Balm to restore softness and lock in moisture. For extra glow, apply while skin is still damp.
Inside-Out Hydration
True glow starts within. When you’re dehydrated, your skin shows it, dullness, fine lines, and uneven texture are all signs of low water intake.
Your fix: Stay hydrated (think two litres of water a day) and add SKIN WITHIN and GUT WITHIN to your morning routine for better nutrient absorption and internal balance.
The Takeaway
Your summer skin doesn’t need more, it needs smarter. Protect, purify, and replenish. Treat your skin as the living organ it is, one that responds to care, consistency, and connection.
Because real glow isn’t from the sun.
It’s from within.
